My Top 6 “Go To” Breakfast Spots in Cape Town
Breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day. I actually get excited to go to sleep, so that I can wake up and have breakfast…I am not even kidding, lol! It is also one of the most important meals of the day- keeping you fueled and energized so that you are able to perform to the best of your ability. Now, being the adventurer that I am, I like to try new breakfasts spots all the time. However, there are a few breakfast spots that are my “go to” restaurants of choice. Why? Well, because I know that no matter what I feel like, the experience will be great and the food is always delicious. So if you are a foodie or simply just someone looking for a new breakfast spot to try, keep reading and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Tasha’s is definitely one of my favorite places to have breakfast. Yes, they are slightly pricier than some of the others but it is totally worth it. The portions are hearty, their ingredients are fresh and the ambiance is delightful. The chic decor makes you feel somewhat posh, as if you should be sitting with your girlfriends, sipping on endless cappuccinos, chatting about life, laughter and happiness- totally a scene out of Sex and the City. I would recommend the Humus Toastie : hummus, rocket, avo, roasted vine tomatoes, feta, poached egg & za’atar spice on toasted village bread- maybe it is my Arabian roots talking but this is right up my alley!
If you are looking for a hidden gem for a delicious breakfast spot- this is it. Jarryd’s has an awesome vibe, with a very unique look, trendy waiters and of course delicious coffee and tasty food. My favorite on the menu is The Mexican Egg White Omelet: fresh cherry tomato, avo, raw corn & coriander salsa, Spanish onion, kidney beans, jalapeno picante relish + coriander queso fresco along with one of their Coconut Chai Lattes. I normally substitute the dairy for Almond milk and it is just as delicious. Yes, Jarryd’s is also on the pricier side but the experience you get is one of a kind. Go give it a try and I guarantee, you will be hooked!
This is definitely one of my “go to” breakfast spots because they have everything I love. From the most delicious soy chai lattes to breakfast’s that are extremely well priced, super filling and full of flavor. As I am sure you are aware, there are many Knead branches all over Cape Town and I kid you not, I have never been disappointed with any of them. Their standard of quality carries through from branch to branch and that is why I always have a great experience there. My favorite breakfast to order on their menu is their scrambled eggs, with crispy bacon and rosa tomatoes on gluten free toast. If you are not in the mood for eggs, give their Bircher Muesli a try: rolled oats soaked in mango juice, mixed with yogurt and cinnamon, dressed with red quinoa, chia seeds, nuts and seasonal fruit – the best start to the day, if I say so myself.
Bootlegger Coffee Company
If you haven’t been to Bootlegger yet, where have you been!? This is one of my absolute FAV places to bring my laptop, sip on a flat white and eat breaky. I come here at least once a week to get creative, work on projects, but also to feel inspired. All of the Bootlegger’s seem to have a great energy about them. Their warm nature and welcoming ambiance makes you want to hang out there all day. My top breakfast pick would be the Omega Smash: Smashed & not so smashed avo, sourdough, salmon trout, two poached eggs & lemon infused olive oil- mmm…mmm… does that not sound like the best thing ever? Pair it with a flat white or one of their freshly squeezed juices and you are good to go!
Vovo Telo Bakery & Cafe
My favorite thing about Vovo Telo is their Homemade Muesli: served with fresh fruit, yogurt and honey… Yes, if you have not tried this, I promise it will change your life. I have yet to find a restaurant that can actually compete with this breakfast. Vovo Telo at the Waterfront has a beautiful setting- it is warm and inviting and always a great experience. The waiters are friendly and the ambiance is light. The waterfront branch is my favorite as you look out onto the big wheel while being able to “people watch” for days (something I LOVE doing by the way). On a summers day, I would recommend trying their homemade muesli- it is fresh, filling and fabulous!
Last but definitely not least is Giulio’s. This is a great place to come for a feel good breakfast, paired with a full flavored cappuccino. My breaky choice is the Deliziosa Wrap: Scrambled eggs, bacon, caramelized onions, pesto and pan fried thyme mushrooms. There is a huge array of breakfast options to choose from, all being very well priced and will leave you feeling completely satisfied for the entire day. As mentioned in my ” Top 5 Quirky Coffee Spots in Cape Town” post, this place is always busy, buzzing with trendy people, cool creatives and foodie fanatics. This is a great “go to” breakfast option.
