As an actor, one of the most important tools you need to have is a GREAT headshot. Your headshots can be the “thing” that make or break getting an agent. It is the first thing that casting directors see when looking to cast roles. Your head shot is SUPER important and finding an amazing headshot photographer is not easy.
A couple months ago I got new headshots done in sunny Cape Town and I was absolutely blown away by the outcome of the shoot. I am lucky enough to have many friends in the industry and a lot of them have gone to the same photographer. So I got onto Instagram and did a little stalking… ( we all know how to do that) and had a look at his photos and I was super impressed! Yes, I am sure a lot of you know who I am talking about; the one and only Head Shot Photographer Cape Town.. Justin Munitz!
Justin was an absolute dream to work with. I arrived with a bunch of different “looks” for the shoot and was greeted by two very cheery faces- Justin and his makeup artist Natasha Williams ( an absolute sweetheart!). From the moment I walked into the room, we didn’t stop chatting. From joking around and putting on accents, to some very serious, professional conversations, I was made to feel completely comfortable and ready to rock the camera. There was not a second where I felt awkward or nervous or uncertain about what I was doing because Justin guided me the entire way through and Nat was standing by, ready to touch up my make up when necessary. With music in the background and a super casual but professional atmosphere, I ended up with some of the best headshots I have ever taken
Justin ended up taking over 200 shots and it literally took me days to try and pick out my favorite ones! The trick is to pick a variety of different shots so that it shows your agent/ casting directors the different characters that you could potentially play.
It is important to take a theatrical headshot, a commercial one and then maybe even a sexy or “girl next door “shot. I still have a couple of other looks that I haven’t chosen yet as I am finding it very hard to choose between all the different options.
Overall, it was a great shoot and I would totally do it again in the future! If you want to follow Justin on Instagram then click here and if you want your makeup done by the super talented Natasha Williams then you can follow her on Instagram too by clicking here.
